Joan Motivala, 80, Of Paramus

PARAMUS, N.J. -- Joan Motivala, of Paramus, died Friday, Nov. 18. She was 80.

She grew up in Coventry, England and as a little girl she lived through World War II and the Coventry Blitz. 

She loved travel, fiery debates and completing the New York Times crossword in ink. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family and friends. 

Before retiring in 2006, she had a wide variety of careers. Her favorites were managing The Leofric Hotel in Coventry and working as the office manager and administrator for the American Boy Choir in Princeto.

She is survived by her husband, Meherwan (Mehli) Motivala; children, Lila Gawel and her husband Mark and Baman Motivala and his wife Maria of Sweden; grandchildren, Sixten and Kasper; and siblings, Sue Chinn and her husband Pete and Colin Waugh and his wife Jean.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 S. Farview Ave., Paramus, directly followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Paramus Volunteer Ambulance Corp, 295 E. Midland Ave., Paramus, NJ, 07652.
